HONOREE TERMS, CONDITIONS & CODE OF CONDUCT

Purpose of the Award

The MLK Legacy Awards honor individuals whose lives and work reflect the principles, values, and vision of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., including justice, integrity, nonviolence, service, equity, and respect for the dignity of all people.

By accepting an MLK Legacy Award, honorees acknowledge that this recognition is not only an honor, but also a responsibility to uphold these values in both personal and professional conduct.

Honoree Conduct Expectations

By accepting this award, honorees agree to:

  • Conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the values and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Demonstrate integrity, respect, and accountability in public and private behavior.

  • Refrain from actions, statements, or conduct that reasonably conflict with or undermine the principles of justice, equality, nonviolence, and community uplift.

  • Avoid behavior that could bring harm, disrepute, or reputational damage to the MLK Legacy Awards, its mission, or the broader community it serves.

Ongoing Responsibility

The MLK Legacy Award is a lasting recognition. Acceptance of the award signifies an ongoing commitment to ethical conduct and alignment with Dr. King’s values, both at the time of receipt and thereafter.

Honorees understand that actions taken after receiving the award may reflect upon the integrity and credibility of the MLK Legacy Awards program.

Review, Revocation, and Disassociation

The MLK Legacy Awards organization reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to:

  • Review the status of an honoree if credible information arises regarding conduct that conflicts with the mission and values of the award.

  • Publicly or privately disassociate from an honoree whose actions are determined to be inconsistent with these principles.

  • Revoke the honor, remove the individual’s name from promotional materials, websites, or historical records, and rescind any privileges associated with the award.

 

Such actions may be taken without prior notice when deemed necessary to protect the integrity of the organization and its mission.

No Endorsement

Recognition as an honoree does not constitute endorsement of all personal, professional, or political views or actions of the recipient. The award reflects the individual’s contributions and alignment with Dr. King’s values at the time of selection.

Agreement

Acceptance of the MLK Legacy Award constitutes acknowledgment of and agreement to these Terms and Conditions. Failure to adhere to these standards may result in corrective action as outlined above.
